The second phase of the two-day surveying and mapping training workshop, organized by the Land Commissioner General's Department to enhance the professional knowledge and practical skills of Colonization Officers attached to inter-provincial offices, was successfully held recently at the Institute of Surveying and Mapping in Diyatalawa. The Institute of Surveying and Mapping handled all aspects, including the program schedule, resource person contributions, and training session facilitation. The officers were provided with comprehensive knowledge and practical training on fundamental concepts of surveying, map reading and analysis, land measurement methodologies, modern surveying technologies, and practical matters relevant to the day to day duties of Colonization Officers.

In addition to lectures, the program included practical activities, experience sharing, and awareness sessions on new technical methods used in the field. The Colonization Officers contributed with great interest and active participation in these sessions.

Continuous professional development for Colonization Officers to enhance efficiency and service quality in land administration remains a primary objective of the Land Commissioner General's Department, and this training program was implemented as another step toward that goal. The Land Commissioner General's Department expresses its gratitude to the Director of the Institute of Surveying and Mapping, the Deputy Surveyor General (Academic), all resource persons, and all officers who contributed to the organizational duties for making this program a success.


The Mahiyanganaya Inter-Provincial Land Commissioner's Office awarded 46 land permits to beneficiaries of the Gemunupura Colony Project at a ceremony held on 30 July 2026 at the 'Sambashanee' Auditorium of the Mahiyanganaya Divisional Secretariat.

The event was graced by Hon. Sudath Balagalla, Member of Parliament for the Mahiyanganaya Electorate, as the Chief Guest. Hon. Ms. Upeksha Wijethunga, Lawyer and Chairperson of the Mahiyanganaya Pradeshiya Sabha, attended as the Special Guest.

Officials of the Mahiyanganaya Inter-Provincial Land Commissioner's Office, government officials, and beneficiaries were also present at the ceremony.

The issuance of the land permits marks a significant milestone in securing the beneficiaries' legal rights to their land. It also strengthens their social and economic security by providing formal land tenure, contributing to long term stability and sustainable community development.


On the occasion of National Integrity Week, an Integrity Pledge ceremony was held today at the Land Commissioner General's Department with the participation of its officers. The programme forms part of the national initiative aimed at further strengthening the principles of discipline, transparency, accountability and good governance in public administration.

During the ceremony, all officers recited the Integrity Pledge, reaffirming their commitment to uphold the law as public servants and to deliver an honest, transparent and citizen centred public service free from bribery and corruption.

The National Integrity Week of this year is being observed from 27 to 31 July 2026. The programme aims to foster an ethical culture within public institutions, prevent bribery and corruption, promote accountability and transparency, and further strengthen public confidence in the public service.

The Land Commissioner General's Department joined the national initiative, reaffirming its institutional commitment to building a sustainable, accountable and integrity driven public service.


The two-day Surveying and Mapping Training Programme, organized by the Land Commissioner General's Department with the aim of developing the professional knowledge and practical skills of the Colonization Officers attached to the inter-provincial offices, was successfully held recently at the Surveying and Mapping Institute in Diyatalawa. The institute carried out all the activities including the program planning, contribution of resource persons and conducting the training sessions, and provided the officers with extensive knowledge and practical training on the basic concepts of surveying, map reading and analysis, land measurement methods, modern surveying technology and practical matters relevant to the daily duties of the Colonization Officers.

In addition to lectures, the programme also included practical activities, exchange of experiences and awareness on new technologies used in the field, and the officers contributed very enthusiastically and actively to the sessions.

The continuous development of the professional capabilities of the Colonization Officers to enhance the efficiency and quality of service in the field of land administration is a priority objective of the Land Commissioner General's Department, and this training program was implemented as one of the steps in this regard. The Department expresses its gratitude to all the resourceful officers including the Director of the Survey and Mapping Institute, the Deputy Surveyor General (Studies) and all the officers who contributed for organizing sessions and to the success of this program.


A mobile service program aimed at resolving land issues in the Batticaloa District was held recently at the Batticaloa District Secretariat, with the participation of the Land Commissioner General.

Political representatives of the Batticaloa District, officials from the Land Commissioner General's Department, the Provincial Land Commissioner, and officials representing all Divisional Secretariats in the Batticaloa District participated in this event.


Welcome and Orientation Workshop for Newly Appointed Management Service Officers

A three-day workshop to welcome and orient newly appointed Management Service Officers to the Land Commissioner General's Department, while guiding them toward delivering quality public service, commenced last Wednesday

On the first day, the official welcome ceremony for the newly appointed Management Service Officers was held with the participation of the Land Commissioner General.

On the second day, a special training session titled "How Can I Become an Asset?" was successfully conducted at the Department Auditorium. The session was facilitated by Mrs. Pradeepa Serasinghe, a retired Special Grade officer of the Sri Lanka Administrative Service. During the programme, extensive discussions focused on developing the attitudes and professionalism of the newly recruited officers, emphasizing the importance of serving the public with dedication, efficiency, and effectiveness while upholding the values of the public service.

On the final day of the three-day training programme, participants are scheduled to receive an introductory session on the e-Slims system at the Ratmalana Information Centre premises.


Under the guidance of the Land Commissioner General, a special lecture on attitude development was successfully conducted for the officers of the Land Commissioner General's Department. The session was facilitated by Mr. Lalith Sumanasiri, who served as the resource person.

The program was attended by all officers and staff officers of the Land Commissioner General's Department and the staff officers of the Ministry of Lands and the Land Title Settlement Department.

The Land Commissioner General's Department extends its sincere appreciation to Mr. Lalith Sumanasiri for his valuable contribution as the resource person. His insightful lecture, aimed at strengthening efficiency, fostering positive attitudes, and reinforcing professional values in the public service, was highly appreciated by all participants.


A mobile service programme to address land related issues in the Hambantota District was recently held at the Hambantota District Secretariat under the patronage of the Hon. Deputy Minister of Lands and Irrigation, Mr. Aravinda Senarath Vitharana, with the participation of the Land Commissioner General.

The programme brought together officials from the Land Commissioner General's Department, the Provincial Land Commissioner's Office, the Inter-Provincial Land Commissioner's Office, and representatives from all Divisional Secretariats in the Hambantota District to facilitate the resolution of land related matters and provide services to the public.


In line with Dengue Prevention Week, a special cleaning and inspection programme was recently conducted at the Mihikatha Medura premises with the participation of staff officers, subject officers, and cleaning personnel representing the three institutions operating within the premises: the Land Commissioner General's Department, the Land Title Settlement Department, and the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Land and Irrigation (Lands Section).

The programme focused on monitoring and improving the cleanliness of the office premises and surrounding areas to support dengue prevention efforts and to raise awareness among officials on identifying and eliminating potential mosquito breeding sites, thereby promoting a clean, safe, and healthy working environment.


A three-day mobile service was conducted on June 17, 18, and 19 under the coordination of the Polonnaruwa District Secretariat and the guidance of the Land Commissioner General’s Department. The program was organized to address long-standing land lease issues, discuss outstanding lease payment arrears with lessees, and resolve various land-related matters in collaboration with all Divisional Secretaries and relevant political authorities in the Polonnaruwa District. The initiative provided an opportunity to settle many longstanding land lease concerns and raise awareness among lessees with outstanding arrears through direct discussions and guidance.
